  1. At this point, I'm rather dreading class tomorrow. I know what everyone's going to say because it's pretty much already been said. For some reason our talk about revolutions Tuesday pissed me off and I know most of the Twilight bashing that's sure to come with our discussion will lead me to a similar temperament. So, I might just walk out of class or sit there quietly or talk and make no sense (or make all the sense in the world, we'll see).

  2. Yes, Twilight does seem to bring out strong feelings in readers, but I hope you won't walk out of class! I'd rather hear your perspective. Maybe you'll be able to open some minds to different ways of seeing Meyer's novel.

And, if I may ask, why did the talk of clone revolution rub you the wrong way on Tuesday?

  3. Twilight has many different moments when I seem to reflect on other tensions we have read in the novels throughout the semester. The two that spoke the most to me were the scene in which Bella and Edward were at the restaurant, and the descriptions of Bella looking at herself in the mirror.
The scene in which Bella is looking at herself in the mirror –with the narration giving us a vivid report of her looks –I could not help but think back on The Picture of Dorian Gray. The scene in which Dorian is looking at the painting is different than what Bella sees but it is the same wish the characters create in their hearts. Dorian sees that he is in his prime, and that there is no chance of having youth or beauty beyond this point: his deep desire is to become a vampire in order to preserve this for eternity. Bella sees an awkward girl who does not seem to fit into her skin –we later find out that she would like to transition into a vampire in order to feel comfortable with who she is.
The scene in which Bella and Edward are at the restaurant clearly –in my interpretation –had ties with Dracula. John Harker’s meeting with Dracula in which he begins to notice the little things that are off with him physically mirror Bella notices something is off with Edward, as he is watching her eat, and does not partake in the act himself.
These are two of my favorite mirrored images that Twilight seemed to parallel from our readings throughout the semester, however, there are many more I did not touch upon.

  4. I really don't know why I got so ticked off about what we were talking about Tuesday, I truly don't and I will try not to walk out of class.

  5. Though I have will adimit to actually reading all of the Twlight novels, I cannot say that I liked them. Twight as a whole is the better of the books in my opion. Although I do not perticularly like the book I can, after reading it, understand why so many people like it and how it's popularity has grown. It comes down to one thing, blah characters. I am mostly talking about the main character, Bella. The way she is described and her personality is written is such a way that most girls that read this book can identify themselves with or even put themselves into Bella's shoes, so to speak. This allows them to fanaticize that they are the one's getting to be with Edward and Jacob, which ever one that they like best. I do not know if this was Stephenie Meyer's intention but she did a excellent job of doing that. This reason alone above all else makes Twilight as popular as it is.

  6. In my opinion the twilight series is just a dumb series for little girls. the books and the movies all are poorly written and poorly directed. The series is just a pop culture thing that is popular today because its all about sex and good looking people. this is especially pushed in the movie. people have gone crazy of this series and although ya thats cool for the author that their book is popular, its bad writing and i personally dont like it at all. this book and movies has really shown how society as a whole is really deteriorating because they put things like this on a pedestal.

  9. Type your name: Sammy Scott
Type it with your elbow: sadsmkmkkmy
    Now with your chin: dasdsdasmjmnjy
Now slam your face into the keyboard: About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
